For the past three years our team at Seven Miles Out have been involved as judges in the fantastic Stockport Battle of the Bands competition hosted by Stockport Music Service.

It has been amazing to see so much young talent coming out of Stockport and many of these bands have gone on to play regularly at Seven Miles Out and Stockport Foodie Friday including The Fuse and the Small Blonde, The Outsiders, Square One, Don’t Fret and 11 Hours.

We were honoured to have been asked to judge again this year on Monday 21st January.

As ever the standard was very high with all the bands bringing it to the stage and great to see how The Outsiders from Bramhall High have progressed since they won this competition two years ago. Their Arctic Monkeys cover was flawless. Also fantastic to see last year’s winners 11 HOURS playing a brilliant set, another band who have made amazing progress.

The band who impressed the judges most of all for their sheer originality and stagecraft was Derailer from Priestnall School. The hard work they have put in to the band has certainly paid off and the 14-year-olds – Arthur Scrivener, Luca McLindon-Morris, William Galloway and Sam McKnight – will go on to represent Stockport in the regional final of Battle of the Bands at the legendary Band on the Wall on Sunday 10th February.

This event is such a great experience for young Stockport bands. Well done to the hardworking Craig Eastwood and all the team at Stockport Music Service for keep making it happen.
